EBC RP-X Racing Brake Pads (REAR) - BMW M340i X-Drive G20
Following the hugely successful launch of RP-1™, EBC Brakes Racing increases its Motorsport brake pad range with the introduction of our latest ultra-high-performance track & race material, RP-X™.
Designed for vehicles driven hard on track, RP-X™ possesses a high friction level of 0.55 between 0-750°C (Ambient-1400°F) and achieves a 100% brake effect from cold. This makes RP-X™ an excellent choice for sprint racing or hill climb events, where full brake performance is essential without requiring any ‘warming up’, but also makes RP-X™ well suited to any type of circuit use where a high initial bite and powerful brake response is desirable.
EBC Racing would like to emphasise that it is not a case of RP-X™ being ‘better’ than RP-1™, rather it is ‘different’ and designed to provide a distinctly different response characteristic (more aggressive bite) which some drivers may prefer.
RP-X™ also boasts a flat friction response and is capable of operating at temperatures of up to 750°C without brake fade, yet has a slightly higher average friction of 0.55mu. RP-X™’s higher friction level provides a stronger initial bite and more power under braking, all for a reduced pedal effort compared to RP-1™.
If you’ve experienced some of the leading track/race compounds from EBC’s competitors (such as Pagid RS29, Ferodo DS 1.11 or Endless ME20) then RP-X™ will feel very similar in its response characteristic. The higher friction level and higher initial bite mean RP-X™ is well suited to under-servo’d vehicles (for example: Nissan GT-R R35 and Porsche GT models).
On these inherently under-servo’d vehicles the brake system is naturally more progressive and feelsome, therefore a more aggressive pad material such as RP-X™ is preferable to keep pedal travel within the optimum displacement range. However, the extra power served up by RP-X™ isn’t at the expense of exceptional feel during the braking phase, with the material still allowing the driver to modulate the brake pedal with ease and explore the limits in each and every braking zone.
Similarly, dedicated track/race cars that employ aftermarket master cylinders, anti-roll bars and bias adjusters would also be well suited to running RP-X™, since these components allow the driver to fine tune the brake bias to permit the use of a naturally more aggressive pad material.
Brake Pad Features:
- High friction level of 0.55 between 0-750°C (0-1400°F)
- Capable of operating at temperatures of up to 750C without brake fade.
- Made 100% in EBC Brakes’ Bristol, UK pad factory
- Stainless steel backing plates (reduced heat conduction, no paint)
- Backplates feature Nucap® NRS® hook pad retention system
- Good pad life with excellent disc life
- NOT R90 approved for road use in European markets
- Made with Nucap NRS hooks on backplates to totally eliminate the chance of pad debond
How to Bed-in EBC RP-1/RP-X Brake Pads
No street pre-bed needed. RP brake pads don’t need to “Warm-up” and are as good as or better than most stock pads in lower-speed highway driving. Full potential comes though when you really work these pads though and that is why they are classed as a race pad.
Track/Race Pre-bed
For optimum performance perform a single gentle lap to seat brake pads to rotors, followed by fade 3 as below.
FADE 3 – Perform 6 high-pressure snubs from 90-20mph with a maximum acceleration between consecutive snubs. (approx 0.8g decel, or 80% of an emergency stop). Allow the brakes to fully cool for a minimum of 1 hour before the race session. EBC advise using disc heat paint to ensure green fade is avoided.
