Description

EBC Greenstuff brake pads now come in two series. The first is the 2000 series which is for spirited street use on lighter sports sedans and hot hatch cars.

Then in 2021, EBC released a new elite 6000 series version of the EBC Greenstuff brake pad specifically for light trucks, jeep and SUVs. The new compound improves both the brake effect and longevity of the pads.

EBC Greenstuff 2000 Series features:

As an eco-friendly pad grade, EBC Greenstuff 2000 contains no lead, copper, or toxic sulfides to comply with all environmental legislation and is a direct replacement for your stock or original pads reducing stopping distances and improving brake response.

Not ideal for track use, although many drivers have used Greenstuff 2000 for Hillclimb and lighter cars on the track

For even faster street driving you might consider the EBC Yellowstuff grade or for race use the EBC new Bluestuff or RP and SR series brake pads

The EBC green range is approved to ECE R90 for highway use.

  • A medium to low dust material that offer a nominal 10-15% brake improvement
  • Improved resistance to heat fade at higher speeds
  • Suits modern Euro and Asian models alike
  • ECE R90 approved for all cars that require the European legislation compliance
  • Red brake-in surface coating accelerates pad brake in after install
  • Features red “brake in’ surface coating for instant safe braking after install
  • Pads made with the Nucap NRS hook technology to ensure 100% secure pad bond

EBC Greenstuff™ 2000 has a high initial brake effect and gives drivers confidence from first application of the brake pedal. There is no such thing as a no dust pad. The very nature of how a brake works requires that some dust be generated to avoid rotor vibration (shimmying). The EBC pad creates less dust and dust is more easily washed off than most. All pads create more dust as they are bedding in especially if rotors are worn. Nominal friction coefficient 0.55. For heavier faster cars we strongly recommend Redstuff which does offer much less dust.

    EBC Greenstuff 6000 Series features:

An excellent solution for 4×4 and light truck use, this heavy-duty Greenstuff™ Elite brake pad has the benefit of longer life and better resistance to off-road conditions of dust and sand etc. It has an extremely low rotor wear factor and a medium-to-good lifetime.

    • Superb daily driver R90 type approved pad.
    • Features red “brake in’ surface coating for instant safe braking after install.
    • New 100 % ECO friendly material with ZERO sulphides.
    • No shims for noise reduction needed.
    • More bite from cold.
    • Works in hot and dry climates as well as in cold.
    • Fully R90 approved as was the original Ultimax grade.

Ultimax offers great value for money and first class driving safety.

    • A direct equivalent to OE brake pads
    • Suitable for general public highway use in hot and cold climates
    • EBC's quietest pad formulation for silent braking
    • Progressive braking feel with excellent cold friction
    • Brake-In™ coating for accelerated pad bed in period
    • R90 approved thus legal for public highway use in European markets
    • Made with Nucap NRS hooks on back plates to totally eliminate the chance of pad debond
    • Not suitable for track use

How to Bed-in EBC Greenstuff™ Brake Pads

EBC brake pads are now mostly self bedding. The Ultimax2, Greenstuff, Redstuff, and Yellowstuff compound grades come with a brake-in coating that scrubs the rotor surface, accelerates pad seating times, and provides a strong brake effect for the first 100 miles of use as the brake pads seat themselves. After the first 100 miles or so, unless you are going to drive aggressively, there is nothing more to do meaning – most drivers happily use and enjoy their brake’s excellent performance for tens of thousands of miles after this point. If that’s your way of driving, nothing more needs to be explained. Just enjoy your brakes.

    Fast street driving

If you drive aggressively or in a “Spirited” fashion on roads where it is safe to do so, after seating the pads to your rotors and certainly not before 300 miles of use , you should be prepared for the brake pad to emit an odour or even exhibit some smoke as the pads burn off what EBC call “surface volatiles”.

Many faster drivers experience this in harder braking and criticize the brake pad whereas in fact, this is only part of the final high-end bedding-in process as the pads see rotors temps of 400-500C for the first time (not normal in everyday driving).

Once seated, any organic brake pad made by EBC performs better once the pad goes through heat curing or what EBC call “Green Fade” which happens during its first severe use. The green fade point is 400C/650F. There are two ways to know if you have passed the green fade point – one is via the use of heat paints, the second way is to guess. So heat paints are the better option.

You should drive with caution until bedded flat and you have passed this green fade point at least twice and then allowed the brake pads to cool so the disc is below 100C.
