The AiM Technologies Solo 2 DL GPS Track Day Racing Lap Timer Dash Display is capable of being connected to the cars ECU in order to obtain various data from the sensors fitted to the car.
The comprehensive range of compatible ECUs allows for an easy installation. However, if the connected ECU protocol is not supported, an ECU driver builder is available in the included Race Studio 3 Software.
The AiM Technologies Solo 2 DL has additional inputs via the cars OBDII port or through a CAN/RS232 connection, to enable data to be taken from the cars ECU. The data displayed depends on the actual ECU but typically includes RPM, engine load, throttle position (TPS), oil/air/water temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage, speed, gear, lambda value (air/fuel ratio). The list of available ECU drivers is constantly updated and upgraded (approximately 1000 different ECUs). They are sorted by manufacturer/car model and for each ECU, there is proprietary communication protocols, including the standard OBDII.
Alternatively there is coil RPM input which provides a digital input derived from either square wave signals (8-50 V each signal) or pulse signals (150-450 V ignition coil trigger - primary circuit).
Features a database of more than 3,000 tracks from all over the world and as soon as it is switched on, The AiM Solo 2 identifies its position, recognises the starting line coordinates of the track and starts sampling lap times. In the event that the track is not in the database the AiM Solo 2 realises it and enters into the auto learning mode, automatically understanding the characteristics of the track and gives the lap time anyway.
Data is received from two satellites constellations, GPS and Glonass: which is unbelievably faster and more precise than the previous Solo, and the power on requires only a few seconds for the lap times to be calculated within two hundredths of a second.
The display of the AiM Solo 2 features a selection of 7 different configurable backlight colours which can selected by the user, and the sharp, high contrast display helps easily identify the data being displayed.
The GPS technology used in the AiM Solo 2 provides reliability from the predictive lap timing function so that you can see, in real time, how the current lap compares to your best lap. The side LEDs are also configurable to give a visual indication on whether you are quicker or slower. The Solo 2 also features a theoretical lap timing mode which pieces together your overall best sector times to provide an optimal lap time that could be achieved. Timing information can also be shown in a delta format which gives a representation of how much time you are quicker or slower than your best lap.
The AiM Solo 2 racing lap timer can manage different types of races, speed races in a closed circuit, point to-point races, regularity, performance tests (0-60mph etc.) In each of these configurations, the Solo 2 provided the correct information during the test and powerful data review immediately after each session.
To further review the data at greater length, the AiM Solo 2 has integrated Wi-Fi so that you can transfer data securely and quickly to a laptop or computer up to 50m away without the need for connectors or cables, to then import the data into the AIM Race Studio 3 software for full analysis.
Also included is iPhone compatibility where you can quickly and easily access the recorded data. From the AiM app, you can also manage the track database and even have an online view of the most important engine parameters.
